Our History

Ocampo National High School (ONHS) is situated in the District of Ocampo, one of the nine districts of Central Bay sector. According to DepEd-Sectoral grouping of schools and by political district, ONHS belongs to the newly created 3rd Congressional District of the province. It is the pioneer secondary school in Ocampo District. It created an extension school at Hanawan , Ocampo Camarines Sur with 3 teachers from Ocampo National High School ( Sonia M. Sales, Sheila B. Espinosa and Lily T. Sola) and one (1) Teacher In- Charge ( Santiago Aguinillo). Hanawan Annex School became an autonomous school in 2015 and was named Hanawan National High School under the newly promoted principal, Felomina Vergara who was also a former personnel of Ocampo National High School. In 2015, through the efforts of the Municipal Mayor, Corazon M. Olos, Cagmanaba Annex-School in Brgy. Cagmanaba, Ocampo, Camarines Sur was established. Cagmanaba High School now has one (1) Teacher In-Charge, the Master Teacher 1 of Science department, Marilyn M. Ligon and 9 teaching personnel. The annex school now has 121 enrollees. The district is bounded by Pili in the South and municipality of Tigaon on the East. It is the last town of Central Bay Sector from Anayan, Pili, going to other towns of Partido area.

Ocampo Barangay High School was opened 1971 with fifty-three First year students under the care of the full-time and part teachers. It squatted at the Ocampo Central School site, made use of the facilities of the central school and was financed by the tuition fees of the students, donations and budgetary aids from the local government unit.

Challenges on classrooms, facilities, textbooks, lack of teachers and especially school site bothered the school administration and faculty. These problems were solved when the PTA, the Administration and the government through the municipal officials headed by the Municipal Mayor joined hands in soliciting funds for the purchase of school site and construction of buildings.

In 1983, the administration and supervisory set-up by the DECS (DepEd) was changed. The principal of the elementary school was no longer responsible for the administration and supervision of the high school, instead a Head Teacher from the high school teacher, Mrs. Leonor B. Emata took over, by virtue of the designation by the Schools Division Superintendent.

The head teacher administered the organization of classes with set-up of eighteen academic classes organized under nineteen full time teachers. The program of enrolment, increase number of classes and graduates of Ocampo Barangay High School continuously increases from year to year.

The conversion of Ocampo Barangay High School to a Nationalized High

School in 1988 when the Aquino administration granted free high school education caused a very rapid increase on population. Evidently the school occupied its new site a 2-hectare land area at Barangay San Francisco which is situated at the eastern portion of the town proper. The new site was acquired by the school under the leadership of Mrs. Leonor B. Emata and through the effort of the municipal officials headed by Mayor Florencio P. Celino.

For so many years since 1972 this institution had been a squatter in the campus of Ocampo Central School and the chance to have its own site had grown dim with the reluctance of the leaders to initiate actions to resolve the problem. When Mayor Florencio P. Celino was designated to hold the lead of the Local government of Ocampo in 1986, he included in his ambitious plan the acquisition of a permanent site for the Ocampo High School. Some pessimistic Ocampoanons branded the said plan as impossible. But the dream went on.

In time, Mayor Celino sat down with the school PTA officials and planned out strategies for the acquisition of a school site. In April of 1988, the mayor sent a letter to the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), with strong endorsement from Congressman Raul S. Roco, requesting financial assistance for the purchase of lot along the national high way at Barangay San Francisco.

On August 1988, Architect & Mrs. Rafael Magsalin offered to sell 2 hectares from their properties at eight pesos/square meter which is actually lower by 2 pesos from the original offer.  With the municipal government’s blessings, the good family of the Magsalin’s signified to donate another hectare to make the school site to a total of 3 hectares.

This development was really a breakthrough. Mayor Florencio P. Celino never wavered in his confidence and subsequently tapped resources from Congressman Raul S. Roco who has been very supportive to the leadership of Celino. The tandem of Roco and Celino made a representation to President Corazon C. Aquino. However, before the appeal was acted on, a 4-room school building was allocated for Ocampo High School (OHS) under the President’s social fund, but the construction was held pending as the initial payment for the lot was imperative. Congressman Roco was quick to decide and asserted to the solicitation for a loan by negotiators and released Php 50,000.00 from his personal fund.

So the building was constructed. Congressman Roco was really a generous leader that upon seeing that his people in Ocampo are truly united for the progress of the town, he finally decided to donate the 50,000.00 previously loaned from him. With the consistent and persistent follow-up made by Mayor Florencio Celino, President Corazon C. Aquino approved for the release of One hundred thousand pesos (P 100,000.00). Along with the Ten thousand pesos (P 10,000.00) contributions from the Municipal School Board, the school site was then fully paid. Then the school and PTA initiated and put up temporary school buildings to help develop the school site into a more conducive place to acquire knowledge. To prove its worth, ONHS hosted for the 1st time the Partido Sectoral Meet in November 4-11, 1991 where games were competed on its newly developed school ground.

To date there are 2350 students for Junior and Senior High School and 86 personnel who are enjoying the site, facilities and other benefits of a well-established school. Ocampo High School now named as Ocampo National High School is continuously growing, improving and developing into a progressive quality institution.   From the 1st Principal   Mrs. Leonor B.  Emata (1990-1996) followed by   the   administration of the 2nd Principal Lilian Paredes-Rubi (1996-2001), the school continuously increases its enrolment and was granted as one of the seven autonomous schools in the Division of Camarines Sur.  Mrs. Paredes-Rubi was succeeded by Mrs. Ofelia B. Casiles, Principal II from 2002 -2012. Her successor in 2012 was Dr. Moises C. Cabida, Principal II (2012-2014). The school is now under the management and supervision of Guillermo C. Ortua Jr., Principal II (2014 to date) and eight (8) Head Teachers and (2) Department Coordinators.

From SY 2013 to 2016 there were noted dwindling condition of enrolments for male and females. There was a slight increase of male enrolment from SY 2013-2014 2ith only 42, 42% and 51.53 in SY 2014-2015. A different scenario can be observed for female enrollees where it decreased by 9.11 points, with 57.58%, it went down to 48.47%. However, another significant decrease can be noted in SY 2015-2016 for male as it dropped 4.5 points. An opposing direction can be observed for female enrollees where it spiked from 48. 47% to 52. 97%.
